Stay Warm this Winter!

Stay Warm This Winter!

Thermogenic spices like black pepper, cumin, cayenne, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon are delicious, flavorful and promote a warm and cozy feeling, especially in the winter season.

The term “thermogenic” refers to the bodily process called thermogenesis, when your body burns calories and breaks down fat cells to create heat. This process also refers to a food’s impact on your digestive system and its effect throughout the body.

Thermogenic foods have not only been proven to increase body temperature but also to fuel your metabolism.

·       Black pepper contains piperine which helps the body to absorb other thermogenic spices and promotes heat to help burn calories.

·       Cumin gives metabolism a boost and can raise body temperature, assisting with weight loss.

·       Cayenne has a compound called capsaicin which can increase body heat so radically that it is often used to treat hypothermia.

·       Ginger contains magnesium, chromium and zinc which help improve circulation and keep extremities warm in winter.

·       Turmeric contains tannins which absorb excess water, possessing drying and warming properties. It also contains curcumin, proven to improve blood flow and overall body warming.

·       Cinnamon is a mood enhancer and has a stimulating and warming effect on the body. It also helps break down fat by raising metabolism and reducing cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Staying warm in winter doesn’t just mean wrapping up in a warm coat, scarf, and hat. Warming can also be promoted by intentionally eating thermogenic seasonal foods. So, stay warm this winter, outside and in!
